Plateway Models offers an ever widening range of High Quality 16 mm scale laser cut plywood model kits for 32 mm and 45 mm gauge garden railways, aimed at the narrow gauge modeller.
Each kit comes with everything required to build and run the model except glue and paint. The kits are designed for a range of model abilities, and most kits include a number of construction jigs to aid the modeller by holding pieces in place, square and true whilst glue dries / sets.
Most carriage roofs can be made removable with a little additional effort (using a supplied jig) and interiors such as: wall panelling, seats, luggage racks, vents, etc. are generally included. See Details Matter for further information on kit quality.
Sample instructions for all the kits and additional guides can be found on the How to / Resources page. (printed instructions come with each kit). For any questions, problems or suggestions we are only an email away. PlatewayModels@gmail.com
These coaches are based on the GWR ‘Dean’ coaches produced from 1872 to 1906 that bridged the late Victorian to early Edwardian eras, with many running into the 1940’s & 50’s. The coaches were produced in as short four & six wheelers and bogie coaches in both standard and clerestory roofed form.
The ‘Dean’ coach style was subsequently used across many narrow gauge and independent branch lines around the UK and further afield.
These model kits have a wealth of internal and external detail, allowing the modeller to customise each model. With multiple compartments, guards, duckets, end steps, communication cord brake gear, etc. Together with lots of interior detail or seats, luggage racks, internal panelling, ventilators, etc.
