Alpine / Balcony Guards Build

Step 1 Structure

The carriage central body is built using two jigs to keep it flat and square. The jigs act as an extra pair of hands keeping the structural sides in place whilst the glue dries leaving your own hands free. The sides fit down the edges of the floor into pre-cut notches.

The ends, are just glued up with the edges flush. As this is a alpine carriage a small piece of plastic glazing is inserted between the layers.

Once dry the next stage can be tackled.

Step 2 Ends

The ends are glued on, a top jig keeps the walls the right distance apart. Door handles have also been added.

Step 3 Surfaces

The jigs are removed and the external surfaces are added. The box should now be strong and rigid. The extra window holes are covered by the internal and external layers.

Step 4 Internals

Windows are now added to the window spaces (or duckets) and the internal surfaces added. With a removable roof lots of options are available to kit bash and add further detail.

Step 5 Balconies

Now the basic balcony structures can be added together with the chassis rails. Note that this model can have four wheels or bogies.

Step 6 Finishes

Gates, balcony capping, steps, gangway plates, wheels, couplings and handrails are quickly added to complete.

Step 7 Roof & Brake Handle

The removable roof is added using a jig, (Removable Roof Guide) and the hand brake is added to one balcony end. The model is now complete ready to run.

Model with roof removed.
